First In Line

Custom Line is one of Ferretti Group’s most well-loved brands, and as IYG knows better than anyone, that’s for good reason.

Ferretti Group is one of the true giants of the marine industry, with brands ranging from Riva to Wally to CRN. And as yachting industry insiders know, you don’t become such a sprawling success without manufacturing products that are equal parts luxurious as they are reliable, as scintillating as they are practical for the modern yachtsman. One good example of these qualities is Custom Line, one of Ferretti’s marques that is sometimes overshadowed by its peers within the group. But it shouldn’t be. Custom Line offers potential owners a combination of luxury, customization, space, and usability that is a rare blend to find at the docks. Let’s have a closer look.

“I’ve always liked Custom Line because they do a lot of things right,” says Boomer Jousma. “They know their lane, and they know their customer. The boats they produce are of very high quality, they are intelligently designed for both owners and crew, and they can build them at a relatively quick pace that a lot of clients find appealing.”

Custom Line offers nine boats across three subsectors, including the Navetta Line, the Planing Line, and an Aluminum Alloy model. The Navetta line offers full-displacement vessels with a focus on interior volume, efficient performance, and long-range cruising. The smallest yacht in the lineup is 93-feet long, while the largest is a 137. The Planing Line—as its name suggests—offers boats that get up on plane and run at faster speeds than the Navetta line, albeit with a necessary reduction in range from the Navettas. However for owners with a taste for speed, this is an excellent selection of boats, ranging from a 106-footer to a 140-footer. The largest boat that Custom Line offers is the lone selection from its Aluminum Alloy series, a 50M. That yacht stands out even among stiff Custom Line competition for its space, luxury, and attention to detail.

Jousma is particularly fond of the some of the smaller yachts from this builder, as he sees them filling a critical niche in yachting. “I talk to a lot of clients who are looking for smaller tri-deck boats, like right around 100 feet, let’s say. And there simply isn’t that much on the market that fulfills their needs,” he says. “But Custom Line is able to do that with models like their Navetta 30. And beyond that they do a really nice job with their fit and finish, as well as thoughtful design details that are reminiscent of much larger yachts.”

Custom Line is a bit of a misnomer, as the brand officially builds semi-custom yachts. (If you want a full-custom Ferretti, stayed tuned for our rundown on CRN.) However the customizations Custom Line does offer are plentiful. What’s more, their large interior volumes make them ideal for big families, and their shallow drafts make them perfect for cruising to skinny-water hotspots in the Bahamas. Plus the builder constructs these yachts with remarkable efficiency, so you can get your hands on one with relative ease compared to some competitors.

2023 Custom Line Navetta M TOGETHER

The Italian Yacht Group’s Patrick Hopkins recently sold a 42-meter, 2023 Navetta—it’s the second Custom Line that IYG has sold. “We know this brand well, and we’d like to sell more of them, and maybe even build one someday soon,” says Jousma. So if what you have read here today sounds enticing, you know exactly who to call.
