A Vanquish Showcase at Sag Harbor Cove West
Summer got off to a roaring start for the Italian Yacht Group. The team has now settled into its northern headquarters in Sag Harbor for the warmer months, and they figured there was no better way to kick off the season than by hosting a soiree in conjunction with one of its close partners—Vanquish Yachts—to really set the season in gear.

The party took place at IYG’s office, which is nestled snugly in the heart of Sag Harbor Cove West. Cate Jousma headed up the party planning and saw to it that guests were duly refreshed thanks to multiple carts serving spritzes, gelato, and coffee. The gathering offered the perfect time to show off a new beach club that was installed recently where soft sand meets the gray-blue waters of the Sag Harbor Bay.
“Sag Harbor Cove West is just a great spot for this,” says Cate.
Between the new beach club, the boats out on display, and everyone hanging out on the water, it turned into one of our favorite days of the summer.
Why Vanquish Fits Hamptons Ownership
Those VIP guests surely enjoyed their gelato, but what they were really there for was the boats. IYG and Vanquish had three models on display, including a VQ45, a VQ55, and two VQ70s that were freshly delivered stateside. Vanquish and IYG have enjoyed a long history together, with the brokerage house positioning itself as the worldwide Vanquish experts. Simply put, nobody has sold more of these boats, and no one knows them better.

Vanquish is nearly perfectly suited to the way owners use their boats in the Hamptons. Waterside eateries in the area have boomed in the past decade. Hotspots like Duryea’s, Minnow, and Le Bilboquet are at the heart of Hamptons social life. But of course there’s just one problem: Hamptons traffic. Nobody wants to sit in an UberXL for two hours to get a lobster roll. And that’s where Vanquish entered the scene. What better way to get to lunch than to arrive on a Dutch-built yacht whizzing around in excess of 40 knots?
The VQ45 and VQ55: A Look at the Lineup
All three of the models on display at the party were capable of those speeds, and also offer lots more than just white-knuckle top ends. The VQ45 may be the baby of the bunch, but she certainly packs a wallop. The inboard version of the boat does 40 knots on the pins, while the outboard version, depending on the engine configuration, can reach a screaming 70 knots (if you are an owner in a legendary hurry). Both versions have a custom hard top for shade and bow seating to help accommodate a capacity crowd of 16.

The next step up the ladder is the ever popular VQ55. Though when outfitted with outboards the VQ55 can also hit the blistering speeds the 45 sees, the one on display was powered by waterjets, which make her super maneuverable as well as well suited for shallow water and beaches, and cruising grounds with lots of lobster pots. The yacht has a hybrid fiberglass and carbon fiber hull which keeps it light and rigid while offering an exceptionally dry ride. For a manageably sized dayboat that could be owner-operated, while also offering undeniable amounts of flash, the VQ55 is an exceptional pick.

The VQ70: The Stars of the Show
However the stars of the show at the IYG party were the two new VQ70s. These beasts had guests ooo’ing and ahh’ing at their sleek lines, elite performance numbers, and special Vanquish touches like a VQ11 PWC burrowed away in her garage alongside an AB350 tender. The 70 took design cues from the private-aviation space, and is built using aerospace-grade aluminum. Couple that with (count ’em) 4,000 horses and a top end of 48 knots and this model is as close to a rocketship on the water as you can get. She’s highly customizable too. Vanquish is known for being able to handle any request owners may have for their boats, so it’s super easy to put your own stamp on one of the standout models in the dayboat market.
