Summering In The Hamptons

|

Summer is in full swing and that means that Hamptons boating season is upon us. The great yacht migration from Florida to the Northeast culminates for many in this famously tony region.  The Hamptons are defined by their see-and-be-seen hotspots as well as their rustic beauty—both of which are amplified, of course, when you have access to a boat. And there’s no better hub for boating in the Hamptons than the village of Sag Harbor. It’s why IYG keeps its summertime office there. With a central location and protected waterways, there’s good reason so many beautiful yachts call Sag Harbor Bay home. Here are a few spots to check out if you’re in the area sometime soon.

Shelter Island is a short hop from Sag, and with no roads connecting it to the mainland, it’s a low-key and idyllic locale in which to spend a day. The iconic Pridwin Hotel re-opened in 2022 after a complete overhaul and has garnered lavish applause ever since. Grab an Aperol spritz at the Crescent Bar before enjoying the bountiful and delicious seafood selection offered at the hotel restaurant. If you’re looking for a pick-me-up, head to Marie Eiffel Market for a perfectly balanced cup of coffee. Just be prepared for a dressing down from the owner Ms. Eiffel, who is all too happy to dish out lighthearted reprimands as only the French can do.

Duryea’s has locations in Montauk and Orient Point (technically not the Hamptons, but rather the North Fork). The restaurant captures the laidback yet glitzy vibe that is ever popular Out East. The restaurant is famous for its lobster salad, and has docks that are always studded with the latest and hottest boats of the season.

Rhode Island’s Watch Hill is about an hour’s poke from Sag Harbor, but really it’s a world away. IYG clients enjoy going there to get the full New England experience, which is a totally different feel than what you’ll find in The Hamptons. You can scoot over there for the day, or just for a meal, and really feel like you took an actual trip.

For a long time Greenport on Long Island’s North Fork was a sleepy fishing village that didn’t register with Hamptonites. But in the last decade all that has changed. Check out the iconic waterfront bar and grill Claudio’s for a rollicking good time, or for something a bit more elevated take a tour of the many vineyards that dot the area.

Navy Beach in Montauk is a famously laid back seafood spot known for its fresh shellfish and salmon tuna tartare. The restaurant is adjacent to old navy docks from which it gets its name, so there is usually plenty of real estate for docking.

Just a short walk from the IYG office in Sag Harbor is The Beacon, a low-key restaurant with a marina and a clientele made up of A-listers and locals alike. Seafood dishes are of course the main draw here. The lobster rigatoni is a must, and the sesame-crusted tuna is an equally delicious, less carby option.

Once you’re done at The Beacon, pop on over to the IYG offices to say hello, and see what yachts are available to make your summer in the Hamptons that much sweeter.
